InnovateWork Vancouver - Creating Change in the World of Work
Next up, was Charlyne Fothergill from Lighthouse Labs. Charlyne kicked off her talk with a history of where the idea of work/life balance came from. It isn’t some millennial ideology but actually a very, very old concept that came after the industrial revolution. The other idea of work/life integration is also not a new, new idea but is about 10 years old. This notion of integration is all about creating synergies in life and using your time in the most efficient way. What’s stopping companies from embracing this notion is a lack of convenience and trust. To build both we need to ask two questions:
When and why do people need to be in the office?
How else can you make life easier for your staff?
By asking these questions you can not only create trust but also mitigate risk.
Last week Team Beacon all got together and headed to the first ever InnovateWork Vancouver event. The evening was marked with great networking opportunities and even better speakers.
Ash Kumar was our warm and charming MC, and Matt Burns facilitated a diverse panel. We loved hearing from Mumtaz Chaudhary (Pragilis Solutions), Tegan Cochrane (3-Time Canadian National Cycling Champion), Tomasz Kampioni (CIO of Law Society of BC), and Paul Dhillon (Social Entrepreneur).

Loc’elle is an app that was engineered by Humaira and her Victoria-based team that helps women with networking, fostering professional relationships, and finding mentorship. The last talk of the night was delivered by Sam Park from InstinctX. Sam delved into the world of branding and educated us on the difference between your personal brand and an employer brand. So, why does employer branding matter?

Trust - 92% of people trust recommendations from individuals (even if they don’t know them) over brands
